Some Opportunities for 2017

Having spent Christmas at home in Auckland - as it seems so did a surprising number of our friends – I’m pleased to say you don’t have to leave home to have a very enjoyable time during the Christmas and New Year break.

Having spent Christmas at home in Auckland - as it seems so did a surprising number of our friends – I’m pleased to say you don’t have to leave home to have a very enjoyable time during the Christmas and New Year break.

Now as there will be some of you who, like me, are keen to get back to business, I thought I should send a New Year edition commenting on investment opportunities in 2017.

Property and Fixed Interest

My final newsletter last year was extremely well read, as was the previous one, in which I quoted ASB’s quarterly investor confidence survey taken last August which showed investment picks here were as follows:

  • 21% of people say their own home.
  • 18% pick rental property.
  • 13% term deposits.
  • 7% bank savings accounts.
  • 6% publicly listed companies.

Feedback from these confirms that in a low interest rate environment the preference from investors is for property and interest bearing investments offering higher rates than bank deposits. On that note, a reminder to email or call me if you’re interested in:

  • Property investment – I’ve got a specialised commercial property fund coming up that’s not restricted to Wholesale investors, has a Product Disclosure Statement and accordingly will be an offer open to the “public”:
  • Fixed interest returns - including some that sit under the radar as they are “private offers”, which for regulatory or other reasons are not advertised, but are offering high returns. One that opened just prior to Christmas offering 14% per annum and limited to only 20 "wholesale" investors has already raised a million dollars.

Listed Companies

Sitting in last position in the above survey were public listed companies. I’m not sure that this is a fair comparison as investors in most managed funds are in essence taking an interest in listed securities which often take up a fair proportion of the fund. See an article here on managed funds by Bruce Sheppard – written some time ago but still relevant.

Last weekend I spoke to a recipient of my newsletters in Australia who is a corporate advisor and investment strategist and advises ASX listed companies on their strategies and capital raisings. He’d originally called me to see if I had people who might be interested in opportunities to invest in some of these companies that were “below the radar” and currently offering IPOs and secondary capital raisings. Since then I’ve had a look at a couple and I’m sure they would be interesting to some of you.

Note these offerings are available only to “wholesale and/or professional investors” as defined at the bottom of this newsletter, and as TBK Capital does not give investment advice, and is not a sharebroker, you will need to contact your own advisor or broker for personal advice and eventually to sell these ASX shares. If this is of interest reply to this email or give me a call.

Other Offers

A large part of our capital raising activities at TBK Capital is to assist SMEs to acquire funds for expansion – usually by the issue of new shares in the business. You can see summaries of these on our website under Projects

For more information and an update on each of these – for some the offer is nearly full and about to close, and for others the promoters are happy to discuss variations to the offer – you should email or give me a call on 09 307 3257 or 021 902 901.

Other than those that have a Product Disclosure Statement, the above investments are not offers of financial products that require disclosure under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (Act) and are available only to wholesale investors as defined in Schedule 1 of that Act (other than any person who is only a "wholesale investor" under clause 3(3)(b)(i) or (ii) of Schedule 1 of that Act). They are intended for distribution only to selected people to whom, under the relevant laws, they can be lawfully distributed. They cannot be distributed in any other jurisdiction, or to any other people. They are not offers or solicitations in any jurisdiction in which such offers or solicitations are not authorised, or in which the person making such offers or solicitations are not qualified to do so, or to any person to whom it is unlawful to make such offers or solicitations. Any representation to the contrary would be unlawful. No action has been taken by any person that would permit a public offering in any jurisdiction where action for that purpose would be required.
