Icehouse
Ventures’ began in 2003 with the formation of Ice Angels, a small group
of passionate investors who saw the opportunity to band together and
support Kiwi innovators to take on the world.
Over the next decade this grew into New Zealand’s most active angel
network and in 2013 raised their first fund. Subsequently they’ve scaled
to an early stage venture firm with over $250 million of assets under
management.
Strong history
Icehouse Ventures’ IVX fund is a late stage fund that is investing in 30
New Zealand technology companies over the next three years. These
companies are typically;
- 3 - 7 years old,
- have already raised 2 - 3 rounds of capital,
- have teams and Boards in place, are achieving commercial and technical milestones,
Their early stage funds have invested in more than 260 companies since 2003. Notably PowerbyProxi (acquired by Apple), Greenbutton (acquired by Microsoft), Ethique (acquired by Bansk Group), Rocos (acquired by DroneDeploy), TNX (acquired by Transporeon), Unimarket (acquired by KKR), Engender (acquired by CRV), and many others.
Late Stage Technology Fund
This Fund now has more than $73 million committed towards its $75 million target. Current Investors include Simplicity Kiwisaver, Sir Stephen Tindall, an Iwi, Hobson Wealth, and more than 200 individuals and family offices investing between $50,000 and $4,000,000.
The IVX Fund’s formula has been well validated to date with investments in:
- Halter (backed primarily by Peter Beck and offshore investors),
- Shuttlerock (backed by Sam Morgan and private investors),
- and Dawn Aerospace (backed by Movac and offshore investors).
Current Opportunity
With this final close new investors are being brought in on the same
terms as before. The minimum investment is $50,000, which is paid 25% up
front and then in 25% tranches over three years.
